Where can I sit?!...TOO MANY THROW PILLOWS

Throw pillows are essential as decor accents for your sofa, and added comfort, especially when the sofa has increased width or depth. They essentially help ground your sofa and could tie into several other decor pieces you have in your space.

However, with the different sizes, styles, patterns, and textures, it is easy to get carried away incorporating several different pillows. Your options are endless, and as a result, your finished product can quickly become chaotic.

-Are you having to push throw pillows aside to sit down?

-Are your guests moving your throw pillows from your sofa and placing them in their lap to sit down?

-Do you sometimes place throw pillows on the floor or elsewhere to sit/relax comfortably?

-Do you have a designated area for additional throw pillows?

-Is it taking >5 minutes to fluff and place your pillows while cleaning up for the day?

These are all classic signs that you have WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY too many throw pillows for your sofa and space.

With that being said, it's also good to note that there isn't a magical number of throw pillows you should/should not have. Everything is relative and should be catered to the size and scale of the furniture.

You want to consider the size of your sofa and the amount of seating space in your placement. Consider arranging your pillows in groupings.

SOFA(s)

If styling a 3-seater sofa, place 2 to 3 pillows in one corner, and balance the other corner with a throw blanket draped over the sofa.

or

Place 2 pillows in one corner, and 1 in the opposite corner. Consider a throw blanket near the corner with 1 pillow or towards the center of the sofa.

SECTIONAL(s)

Consider 2 to 4 pillows in each corner. Along with 1 to 2 throw blankets casually laid across.

or

Place 2 to 3 pillows in each corner, and in the center. Consider incorporating throw blankets for coziness.

Remember, the greater the width and(or) depth of your sofa or sectional, the increased number of throw pillows you could potentially incorporate in your design.

Overall, LESS IS MORE!!! But just 1 throw pillow on a huge sofa is likely not aesthetically meaningful and will look out of place. Functionality is key in design. Increase comfort...Minimize clutter. Your space will always look curated, if it's easy for you to maintain!
